From Forest to Fire: Our Responsible Sourcing Journey

Behind every bag of EverBurning Charcoal is a story — one that starts not with a chainsaw, but with a commitment to doing things right.

The problem with most charcoal

The global charcoal industry has a dirty secret. A significant portion of the world's charcoal — including much of what ends up on UK supermarket shelves — is linked to illegal deforestation. Primary forests are cleared, ancient trees are felled, and the carbon they stored for centuries is released in a single burn.

We knew from day one that we wanted no part of that.

Our sourcing: waste wood, not wild wood

EverBurning Charcoal is built on a simple principle: use what's already there. Our charcoal is produced from three types of wood that would otherwise go to waste:

  • Tree branches from managed pruning and maintenance — the kind of material that's routinely chipped or burned as garden waste
  • Lumber leftovers from sawmills and timber yards — offcuts and off-grades that have no other commercial use
  • Wildfire-damaged trees — wood salvaged from areas affected by wildfires, giving destroyed trees a meaningful second life

The result is a premium hardwood charcoal that performs at restaurant level — without a single primary tree being felled in its production.

Reforestation: our commitment to the future

Responsible sourcing is the foundation, but we want to go further. That's why we've invested in active reforestation, having already planted 5,000 trees. Our goal is 20,000 — and we're not stopping there.

Every bag of charcoal you buy contributes directly to this effort. It's our way of ensuring that the forests we depend on are healthier tomorrow than they are today.

What this means for your BBQ

Choosing EverBurning Charcoal means you get the same restaurant-grade performance — the long burn times, the consistent heat, the clean flavour — with the knowledge that your BBQ isn't costing the earth.
